The only "official" ones are the tarballs on this repo's releases page. When the readme says "Most of the above packages are maintained by third parties", that's actually wrong, it should say "all" instead of "most". (We used to have our own homebrew tap, but we deleted it a while ago.) That said, I think you can totally trust most of those packages (if they are up to date, that is), and in particular the homebrew one. I'm not aware of any that add patches to the code, and for building there's really not much that a packager could do wrong in go. |

For those who care about such things, what are the "official" installation methods, as opposed to being maintained by third parties? I.e. is homebrew on Mac an "official" method?
