Uh oh!
There was an error while loading. Please reload this page.
I had an issue with my heating system for quite a while now. For days now, nb_device_active_for_boiler never reached 0, and therefore the central heater remained on. I took time this morning to troubleshoot it. By downloading logs, I saw that two valves had a "maximum repair attemps" error log. And by investigating further, I saw that those two valves did not respond anymore to zigbee2mqtt commands, with one stuck at 4% opening and 96% closing. By reapparaing those them to z2m, everything started to work immediatly as expected, nb_device_active_for_boiler was working as expected, the central heater stopped working if needed.
The troubleshooting process was not that easy to start as I am an HA newcomer. Three tools could have helped me immensely and may be easy to add to Versatile Thermostat to help users, ranging from more tech-savvy one to new ones.
First, is there a way to get the central heater log ? the versatile_thermostat.download_logs action UI only list thermostats, not the central heater. I expected the central_heater logs to help me find what was increasing the nb_device_active_for_boiler value.
Then, could it be an easy way (maybe an action, or a central heater exposed sensor ?) to list all equipements adding up in the current nb_device_active_for_boiler ? This could be used in dashboards to display what is currently triggering the central heater, and could be used in dashboards. In my case, even though all thermostat cards were visually set to "off", nb_device_active_for_boiler was still set to 1, and I had no visual clue to help me.
Finally, in my case, Versatile Thermostat probably knew that both thermostat where in an inconsistent state as it did not find a way to repair them. But as an end user, I did not see that there was an known error anywhere in my dashboard (using versatile-thermostat-ui-card cards), in the versatile thermostat configuration, in thermostat cards or even in the central configurationc card. I am a Home assistant newcomer so maybe I am missing something. But maybe Versatile Thermostat configuration could be setup to send an HA notification when an error occurs such as a maximum repair attempts reached ? Then, the end user would know earlier that something is not alright with the heating system and could preemptively look for a solution ?
I may be able to help you code those features it they could add some values .
Thank you for your incredibly valubable piece of software by the way, It helped me immensely to decrease my gaz bill in my old Alsacian French house :)
ps. If someone knows why my Sonoff valves are sometime dropping Z2M connections, or how to troubleshoot them, I am all ears :) It is not the first time I had issues with them :(
