First G-code Run [Updated BOM for Amazon links]

our University had us building the Core R theta 4 axis printer for our research class. Not gonna lie: it wasn't easy but with the help of my team @jac0bandres & @JohntheFireWarrior , we got every axis working. We ran one g-code test run without using the extruder. Next is just adding the bed, getting the extruder to extrude correctly & fine tuning everything.

By the way, we created a google drive with tons of photos of us building it (with more to come) , updated BOM (Missing a couple of things but most of them are there) with links that go straight to amazon (should still be active) & CAD Files (Different formats, Fusion360, Inventor, OBJ, STEP, and a couple more). All of that should also be in my forked repo Here & Thanks @Bolado for sharing your Onshape file. We were able to modify it to work with parts available through amazon ( and ended up using a Duet3D Mini 5+ Board) The reprap config files for the duet 3d will be uploaded soon to the forked repo. Thanks once again to everyone here and especially @jyjblrd in the community for the help, insight, and this wonderful project

Super cool! Out of curiosity what was the uni course that this was for?

Technically this is undergrad research & the class was called "Intro to Research Methods". (Physics 2910). Phase 1 was building it but phase 2 which will be next semester's research course, will allow us to go into more fine tuning.

Hello author, I would like to ask you about the zeroing sensor that needs to be purchased in this printer list? How many do you need?

For the zeroing sensor, we ended up using something similar to this (Link). We ended up just using 1 of these zeroing sensors.

Thank you so much, author! I still have some questions. My motherboard is the Fly V3 Pro Ultra version. Could you tell me if there would be any differences for the script files and such?

Update: Been working on it for a bit of time in free time with team. Been able to get it working after much troubleshooting and reconfigurating. @jac0bandres has been optimizing the slicer and testing his own slicer (https://github.com/jac0bandres/S5_Slicer).

Congratulations on the build. I'm curious about your choosing such an apparently massive bed. When I saw the star shaped frame for it I thought how cool to taper the edges to reduce mass at the tips *where most of the inertia resides). So naturally I was surprised at the subsequent bed choice. Was it due to a necessity to elevate the first layer? If so maybe you could print a space lattice puck and attach it from the bottom. A challenging build no matter how you look at it!🎉🎊

Honestly, if I went back in time (last semester) when cutting the mdf,tapering the edges would've been the best decision but we just threw things together with the limited time. Honestly, lots of things would change if I went back in time, knowing what and what doesn't work 😂.

We did remove some mass by removing a good bit of material from the underside (as seen in the photo). The best approach would've been to use aluminum sheet metal suspended by the springs & some sort of magnetic base adhesive attached to the sheet metal which would allow you to add a PEI steel sheet.

Last semester we built, this semester we tuned it to print and this semester is all about fine tuning

Nice build! I just noticed the notification and I'm very happy to know that the onshape project was useful to someone!
