if youre on windows then what i did is i have python 3.10.6 installed (no idea if the version matters or not) and i opened my terminal and typed pip install notebook and once thats done then clone the repo somewhere on your computer and cd into it and then type jupyter notebook and after it opens in the browser select main.ipynb and thats how i think you launch it, still unsure on how exactly to use it bc ive never even heard of jupyter notebook before i discovered this

The standard procedure for Jupyter notebooks (not specific to this repository) is:

1. Open command line in project folder (use cd /path/to/folder command if needed)
2. Run command python -m venv .venv
   • This creates a "virtual environment" to avoid having conflicting requirements between different Python projects on the same PC
   • Note: on some platforms, python3 or py is used in place of python
3. After this, commands depend on which platform you are using (Windows or Mac/Linux):

4. Run command pip install jupyter
5. Run command jupyter notebook and click the generated link.
   • OR if you are using Visual Studio Code, you can instead install the Python extension, then open the main.ipynb file, click "select kernel" in the top right corner and choose the .venv environment.

6. Click the ▷ button on the left of each cell to run it; some cells may require user interaction or edits.

Note of warning: this particular line inside the notebook only works on Debian/Ubuntu-based Linux distributions:

All this is really an amazing achievement by you, @jyjblrd!

I use Debian 12, and python 3.11, and managed to run all cells in the jupyter notebook.

First I followed the steps by @PixlRainbow above to install and start the jupyter notebook.
Before I clicked any run buttons, I made the following changes to the second cell containing:
!pip install tetgen
!pip install pyvista
!pip install scipy
!pip install open3d
!pip install pygcode
!apt-get install -qq xvfb libgl1-mesa-glx
!pip install pyvista -qq

I added the lines on top:
!pip install networkx
!pip install imageio

I removed the line:
!apt-get install -qq xvfb libgl1-mesa-glx
and ran it in a separate shell with:
sudo apt-get install -qq xvfb libgl1-mesa-glx

Then I selected the first cell with the text "only necessary for colab", and clicked the run button (triangle i toolbar, in order to fetch the S4 repo contents. I waited for each cell to run before I clicked the run button again.
Some steps produced warning messages about deprecations etc, but worked anyway.

Now I will prepare to build my own 4 axis printer!

Hi, I noticed that some codes is only supported for Linux and I'm using Windows. Is there any modifications I need to make?

@tienanhbbf1 if running natively on Windows (not using WSL), the apt-get steps can be skipped entirely as graphics drivers should already be present.
However, if using WSL within Windows, then it is effectively the same as using Linux.

That is the line I am talking about. Skip/remove it entirely if running directly on Windows (with no emulation)

I am guessing you mean preview. As far as I know, the best you can get is the two visualisations near the bottom of the script (# plot new_gcode_points using pyvista and # plot the gcode).
The script generates gcode that only works with the core-r-theta printer. As such, third-party toolpath/gcode previewers may need significant custom configuration before they can display the g-code correctly.

If you are asking where to find the exported gcode file, it is in the output_gcode/{model_name}.gcode folder.

Edit: There is discussion in #9 on how to adapt the generated gcode to open5x standard printers.

Thank you. I'm currently trying to print a triangular propeller and this error occurs on the first note:
"RuntimeError: Failed to tetrahedralize.
May need to repair surface by making it manifold:
Unknown exception"
I've used the input_tet.tetrahedralize() command but this message still appears. Is it because of my input model mesh?
