What happened?

When I enter an alarm text starting with an uppercase letter, this is shown in the list of alarms and in the alarm notification all in lowercase.

Would it be possible to leave the capitalisation as it is entered by the user?

Hi @sphh, thanks for reporting this!

The label was being lowercased during relative time parsing. That's fixed now so capitalization is preserved exactly as entered.

While I was at it I also added support for label-first input on relative alarms, so things like Stretch 30m or Meeting in 5m now work too.

If you get a chance, would you mind testing from the dev branch and letting me know if it works as expected?

I exchanged the file ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets/quick-alarm@andreas-glaser/lib/time.js with https://github.com/andreas-glaser/quick-alarm-cinnamon/blob/1ab6e0e6891286b21abb01b7438c53ca586bb846/applet/quick-alarm%40andreas-glaser/lib/time.js and restarted the applet.

I tested the following alarms:

• in 10s Alarm: "Alarm" in the list of alarms, "alarm" on the actual alarm
• in 10s Alarm (the second time): "alarm" in the list of alarms, "alarm" on the actual alarm
• Alarm in 10s: "Alarm hh:mm:ss" in the list of alarms, "Alarm hh:mm:ss" on the actual alarm (Why is the time of the alarm repeated in the alarm text?)
• Alarm UPPERCASE in 10s: Error

Thanks for testing and for the detailed notes.

You were right about the repeated Alarm hh:mm:ss text. That was a real bug. Unlabeled relative alarms were being given a generated label like Alarm 12:34:56, which made the queue entry and the fired alarm repeat the time in a confusing way. I fixed that so unlabeled alarms now stay unlabeled, and the UI no longer duplicates the time text.

I also fixed the relative label parsing issues you pointed out. On current code:

in 10s Alarm preserves Alarm
Alarm in 10s now works as label first input
Alarm UPPERCASE in 10s now works too

One important note: please test with the full updated applet, not by swapping in individual files. There were other unrelated changes between those versions, so replacing only one file can leave you with a mixed state and misleading results.

These fixes are now in v1.4.1 and in the current dev branch. If you try again and still see anything off, please send the exact input that produced it.

Again I tested the following alarms:

• in 10s Alarm: "Alarm" in the list of alarms, "Alarm" on the actual alarm ✔
• in 10s Alarm (the second time): "Alarm" in the list of alarms, "Alarm" on the actual alarm ✔
• Alarm in 10s: "" in the list of alarms, "" on the actual alarm (Why is "Alarm" removed from the alarm text❓)
• Alarm UPPERCASE in 10s: "UPPERCASE" in the list of alarms, "UPPERCASE" on the actual alarm (Why is "Alarm" removed from the alarm text❓)

Thanks for retesting. You were right, the label-first parsing had a bug where words like "Alarm", "Reminder", and "Timer" were being stripped because they were treated as command prefixes (to support inputs like set alarm in 10m).

This is now fixed in v1.4.2:

• in 10s Alarm preserves "Alarm" as the label (was already working)
• Alarm in 10s now keeps "Alarm" as the label
• Alarm UPPERCASE in 10s now keeps "Alarm UPPERCASE" as the label

Please install the full v1.4.2 release (not individual files) and let me know if anything is still off.
