First of all, I would like to thank the developers for making this project open source and free. SimpMusic is a beautiful application with many useful features, and I appreciate the hard work behind it.
However, after installing version 1.4.0, I noticed several issues that significantly affect the user experience, especially on mobile devices.
Device Information
Device: Samsung Galaxy S23
Operating System: Android with One UI 8
- Excessive Battery Consumption and Phone Overheating
The biggest issue is the extremely high battery usage and device temperature.
While simply listening to music or podcasts, the phone becomes very hot, regardless of whether:
the screen is turned off,
the app is running in the background,
or the user is only listening without interacting with the interface.
A music player should ideally be lightweight and efficient, especially during background playback. At the moment, the application feels much heavier than previous versions.
- Performance and Responsiveness
The application no longer feels as smooth as before.
I noticed:
slower startup and closing times,
less responsive navigation,
overall reduced fluidity.
In my opinion, the application would benefit greatly from additional optimization. A rich feature set is valuable, but performance and stability are even more important for daily use.
- Too Many Features Can Hurt the User Experience
I feel that the growing number of features has made the application more complex and resource-intensive.
Adding more functions does not always make an application better. What makes users stay is:
simplicity,
speed,
stability,
low resource usage,
and a smooth experience.
It might be worth reconsidering some features that are rarely used or not fully optimized.
- Backup and Restore Problems
I also encountered problems with the backup system.
For users with large libraries, this becomes a serious issue. In my case, my backup is around 15 GB.
After reinstalling the application and restoring the backup:
many songs and podcasts appear as if they are downloaded,
but they cannot actually be played,
and the only solution is to manually delete and download them again.
This process takes a lot of time and reduces the usefulness of the backup feature. Ideally, a restored backup should work without requiring manual intervention.
- More Flexible Media Management
I would also like to see additional options for managing media files.
For example:
importing local MP3 or MP4 files directly into the application,
more flexible download and storage methods,
alternative ways to organize and manage large libraries.
At the moment, users are mostly limited to the application's own download system, which can become inconvenient for heavy users.
Final Thoughts
I really like SimpMusic and want to continue using it. The desktop version works reasonably well, although it also has some minor issues, but the mobile version especially needs more optimization.
My main suggestion is to prioritize:
performance optimization,
lower battery consumption,
reduced device heating,
smoother background playback,
faster startup and navigation,
a more reliable backup and restore system,
and simplifying or removing features that negatively affect performance.
A fast, stable, and lightweight application will always provide a better experience than one with many features that impact usability.
Thank you for your work and for keeping this project open source. I hope future updates will focus on optimization and overall user experience.
