Reduced set of tests for distributors’ testing

Problem statement

When running the test suite in openSUSE build infrastructure, the whole process runs for lovely 10040s (that’s almost three hours) mainly due to the test suite.

Proposed solution

I understand the lure of 100% coverage, but would it be possible to have smaller set of tests covering just the basic functionality of the program ensuring distributors that they are not providing a randomised junk to their customers?
