AI Clients

This project can be used with multiple AI agents and IDEs. Prefer the same workflow everywhere: analyze first, ask before enabling tools, keep secrets local, and measure before claiming token savings.

Client Matrix

Context7 Bootstrap

Context7 supports setup for several AI coding clients:

Use only the command for the client's current tool. Do not run all setup commands unless the user explicitly wants all clients configured.

For clients without MCP support, use Context7 CLI directly:

Tokscale Bootstrap

Tokscale can read local usage from supported clients and can help compare baseline sessions against lean-context sessions.

The automation uses npx -y tokscale@latest internally, so it does not require a global tokscale command. A global install is recommended when the user wants Tokscale to work directly from Warp, zsh, or any shell:

Change --client codex to the active client when Tokscale supports it. Use npx -y tokscale@latest clients to verify local coverage before assuming a new agent or IDE is being measured. A supported client with 0 readable messages is not actually covered until its local cache or integration has been configured.

Use AGENTS_TOKSCALE_CLIENTS for multi-client projects:

Cursor requires cursor agent login, a one-time npx -y tokscale@latest cursor login, and then npx -y tokscale@latest cursor sync. Warp requires npx -y tokscale@latest warp login and npx -y tokscale@latest warp sync. Antigravity requires a running Antigravity language server for antigravity sync to discover sessions. Claude Code is transcript-based. Gemini coverage depends on readable local CLI logs. Ollama is not a Tokscale client in the current CLI; measure it through the invoking agent or another observability tool.

Tokscale submit defaults to dry-run in reusable samples. The user can switch to on after confirming external submission:

Use AGENTS_TOKSCALE_SUBMIT=dry-run to validate the upload set without submitting it, or AGENTS_TOKSCALE_SUBMIT=off for local-only reports.

Long-running sessions are measured from the client's local usage data at the time Tokscale runs. The commit hook captures what is visible at commit time; for ongoing terminals, run bash scripts/ai-tools.sh run manually when a measurement checkpoint is needed.

Repomix Bootstrap

Use Repomix CLI for all clients, including local models:

Analysis-Time Tool Check

When the user asks the agent to analyze the repository, the agent should:

  1. Check .agents.env when present.
  2. If AGENTS_CONTEXT_MODE=baseline, report that optional tool setup is disabled for this measurement run.
  3. Read docs/AI_CLIENTS.md, docs/AI_TOOL_SETUP.md, and related AI docs when present.
  4. Detect the active client when possible.
  5. Check whether local example files exist for MCP and environment setup.
  6. Run pragmatik doctor when available; otherwise run bash scripts/ai-tools.sh check when present.
  7. Report which tools are available, missing, or require restart/login.
  8. Offer pragmatik setup when available; otherwise offer bash scripts/ai-tools.sh setup-machine when global Tokscale, login, or selected client syncs are missing.
  9. Ask before writing secrets, enabling MCP servers, or changing machine-wide client integrations.
  10. Run active tools when configured and append usage and optimization reports.

The agent should not block project work if optional AI tooling is not configured.
