fatal in server: missing socket for IMSG_RECONF_SOCK

I'm running Debian 13 with gmid 2.1.1-current
compilation went fine and gmid -n is ok, but gmid dies with
fatal in crypto: config_crypto_recv_kp: no fd for imsg 11
fatal in server: missing socket for IMSG_RECONF_SOCK

I'm using Letsencrypt certificate and key.

Having the same problem with a self-signed cert and Debian 12. git bisect points at 859c842 being the commit that breaks this.
