Topics for round table discussion on Day 1 of openBIS UGM

Please suggest below topics you would like to discuss in a round table with the openBIS team and the other users.

Deploying openBIS with dev/test/staging/prod environments. Difficult to do because OpenBIS contains data which changes as users add more data, unlike code, so not as straightforward as deploying code changes with git paradigm.

Possible fix that I tried before: duplicate the VM entirely (we have OpenBIS installed on a VM), but this caused clashes because 2 VMs were trying to point at the same URL. Not sure where to disambiguate this; there are a lot of console.properties files everywhere.

It would be nice to have a round table to discuss RDM Community Building. Increasingly, more and more people are interested in learning these tools and getting started with them. Thanks to this momentum, I think we could discuss more open and fast channels for people to post questions.

Also, I find that a forum and sending emails back and forth are kind of an outdated way of communicating, especially when you are looking for a fast answer to a small bug or question.

We were discussing internally, and came to the conclusion that Discord could be the best solution. This system allows to:

• Chats in an informal setting
• Tickets system similar to a forum
• Announcement channels
• Categorization of channels
• Voice rooms
• Easy creation, administration, and sharing of the community

Other communities (e.g., NOMAD) have very successfully built a community in Discord already, so we could do something similar to them.

Following topic came up from our openBIS users:
Similar to objects that can be restricted to a group in a instance (so only visible to a certain group), that this is possible to do for properties for the objects. The reason is that one needs to be careful how to name properties as you need to define the code and it can only be unique, so if you have different groups and a bit different wishes for properties which are named the same it created problems. It would be helpful to solve this either by assigning properties also to a group or not having to bother with the unique code and name.

Following topic came up from our openBIS users already a lot of times over the years:
Improvement of the forms for objects in ELN. We have sent descriptions of improvements etc. It would be great if this can be taken up.
