Knife tool for tracks?

I've frequently run into an issue where in order to split a singer track into multiple smaller tracks, I need to duplicate it over and over and remove the notes manually. I'm not sure if there's a workaround for this, or if there's a way to shorten tracks from the start or end even if there are notes in the way?
