🎉 Oppia + Hacktoberfest 2025

Oppia is excited to be joining the rest of the GitHub community in participating in this year's Hacktoberfest! 🎉

This is an annual event encouraging open source contributions, and it's a great way to get involved in impactful software development. Contributors who submit 6 high-quality pull or merge requests (PRs/MRs) between October 1 and October 31 to any GitHub or GitLab repository tagged with the hacktoberfest topic will be eligible for exclusive rewards!

✅ What You Get

  • Digital Badge: Unlock a Holopin badge as soon as you register — and level it up as your PRs get accepted.
  • Swag (T-shirt): The first 10,000 "Super Contributors" who have 6 accepted PRs/MRs will receive an exclusive Hacktoberfest 2025 T-shirt (T&Cs apply).
  • Treenation Reward: As part of your final reward, a tree will be planted in your name via Treenation, making your contribution greener than ever 🌱.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them on GitHub Discussions.

❓ FAQ

Q: What is Hacktoberfest?
A: Hacktoberfest is a global celebration of open source software, where developers are encouraged to contribute to participating projects throughout October.

Q: Must I only work on issues labeled "Hacktoberfest"?
A: No. Any PR to a repository with the hacktoberfest topic counts, even if the specific issue isn’t labeled. For starters, check out our good first issues.

Q: Do pull requests need the "hacktoberfest-accepted" label to count?
A: Not if they are merged. That label is only necessary if the PR is not merged by October 31 but still considered valid by maintainers.

Q: Should I mention Hacktoberfest in my PRs?
A: It’s not required, but it can help maintainers identify and prioritize relevant contributions. If your PR looks good but isn't merged in time, we may still add the hacktoberfest-accepted label.
