I think @SMillerDev's point is that your ALE setup is not running brew style, so it's giving recommendations based on standard Ruby style, which has at least two exceptions to this style rule anyway (for exponentiation and rationals).

I don't expect Pathnames to be added as another exception to the SpaceAroundOperators RuboCop rules, but I think testpath / "test.cpp" is particularly confusing to read; / is a path separator character in this context, not a simple operator.

Yes, so your linter does. And the one that brew uses does not. There isn't really anything for brew to do here.

Also, the rule actively harms readability, so you might want to ask the ALE community how to selectively disable this rule when editing files under $HOMEBREW_PREFIX.
