Drexel University's Women in Computing Society  #9

Description

Women in Computing Society (WiCS)

What was your highlight from last year

We had a member win an overall award at Femmehacks hackathon, an all female hackathon hosted by the women in computing club at the University of Pennsylvania.
Grace Hopper Conference- Were able to send half of our members to this conference and our members received internship offers and have in the past received full time job offers.

What is/are the project(s) your Club worked on

We're hoping to get involved with an open source humanitarian source project for the upcoming year

What was the most challenging issue that your Club had to deal with

We had a challenging time with getting our members showing up to workshop related events. When we had events where we would host free dinners, we saw many people come out to that, but for other general events, the numbers would drastically drop.

As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to stop doing?

Probably making sure we're rewarding the people that do show up to majority of our events as opposed to those that may just show up for the free stuff

As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to start doing?

We would like to get a group of dedicated members involved with a long term project.

As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to continue doing?

We want to continue our mentorship families where we group three to four members of different ages and computing backgrounds as a family for that specific school year. I personally have benefitted greatly from this because the people in my family were always there to provide helpful advice when it came to resume development or interviewing for internships. Additionally, we would do fun stuff together like go out for food so it was a great opportunity for networking and making friends.

Please something that you would like to share with the Open Source Student Network
