@kev-cam why xyce instead of ngspice? or is that a backend that has not been implemented yet?

Xyce is a GPL license rather than UCB, has active government funding, and is designed from the ground up as a high performance parallel simulator.

I could make OpenVAF work with xyce, but I was wanting to try out an approach with GiNaC. I could also run that stuff (PyMS) back into ngSpice.

I came here to ask the same question. Sequence of events: I wound up at UC Berkley Models page, decided to add support for those models to my ngspice distribution in Engineering Loadout, compiled them with OpenVAF to OSDI models for ngspice inclusion (all the non-BSIM4 models), figured I should go ahead and add OpenVAF to Loadout (sure, why not): My LLVM version (also supplied by Loadout) was too new for this codebase.

Which made me wonder: Is this thing dead? What about new Berkley work on models written in VerilogA? AI could be used to breath life back into this project pretty easily. And if it's worth it, I'll donate the tokens(PRs). But??

Verilog-A is the industry standard way of writing device models, but the full language wasn't adopted properly. If designs are expressed as Verilog-AMS it's a lot easier to optimize how they run in simulation. My stuff does a bunch of source-level optimizations which work in any proper Verilog-A simulator and give you orders of magnitude speed-up.

Claude is doing most of the coding. VACASK is probably a better choice than ngspice.
