[question] how to run tests correct?

I'm trying to add the tests for #3767
But I'm not sure how to run the tests correctly.
Can you add a doc how to do this?

make test-unit works if running with root but the tests/test_runner.sh fails often.

@Dexus I use sudo ./tests/test_runner.sh since some tests need root priv but I usually filter tests as well.
