RFI: Perforce support status on this module - clear statement for the community

Hi,

The puppetlabs/perforce module postgresql module is currently flagged on puppet forge as 'supported' and 'recommended' with high quality scores, yet basic functions and component versions are outdated, failing or not compatible, and despite recently releases in January of this year, there are still unsupported versions, OS's, configurations. This is common across other puppetlabs/perforce modules such as httpd not supporting RHEL 9 or later with PHP.

These vendor supported modules yet they seem unmaintained with basic functionality.

What is Perforces' commitment to
a.) maintaining these modules for current component versions
b.) developing these modules with new features
c.) accepting community contributions to fix functions (PR's are open for years with basic fixes in)

Hi Perforce, it's been 6 months on this bug just asking for a response on if this module is even supported by perforce any more - if you can't answer a bug report asking 'is this supported' in 6 months, I think the answer is 'no' and is not a good look for perforce

Hello @ikonia , I am getting caught up on logged issues across modules and came across this RFI. Very sorry it took so long to get back to you on this!

To answer the root question, the puppetlabs-postgresql module is still a supported module and is considered one of the more important modules in the puppetlabs ecosystem when tiered against other modules. Supported, in Perforce terms, means that customers can log support tickets against a supported module and receive support from the Perforce team.

However, it should be acknowledged that maintenance of the module has slowed over the past year or so and has not kept up with all modern components. Updates have been made on a request basis as needed as opposed to an ongoing flow. There were only 3 releases in 2025, and none have been made in 2026 to this date (June 23rd).

We are putting in place SLOs on our team for reviewing and triaging Puppetlabs modules in an attempt to bring this module, and others, into a more consistent flow of updates. Particularly in targeting community contributions. Words only mean so much, however, and the proof will be in what we deliver in the coming months, along with a better commitment to responsiveness.
