Outdated tool version - example with Hifiasm #1548

Description

@scorreard

I just discovered RSEc Atlas, and when lookng for my favorite tool (hifiasm), I was surprised that the version indicated was outdated.

Overall, I won't be recommended bio.tools or the RSEc Atlas to colleagues if the data is not up to date. I understand you have limited capacity to automate the process, but I think it is an issue to point to out of date information.

Suggestions:

  • For tools with a public repo (GitHub, GitLab, etc), there should be an automated way to pull the latest version.
  • Until that is done, and for tools that don't have a public repo, a banner on the RSEc Atlas (and bio.tools) should say that this may not be the latest version available.
  • The link to the repo available in RSEc Atlas should point to the documentation of the version listed in the RSEc Atlas. For example, for hifiasm, the installation command line would install version 0.16.1
    > docker run -i -t --rm quay.io/biocontainers/hifiasm:0.16.1 bash
    But the documentation lead to the main repo, so the documentation of hifiasm 0.25.0. If the user uses the command line from the tutorial on the main repo, it won't work (because options changed between the versions).

Hope this makes sense,
