This document describes the complete implementation of four critical issues for the LeaseFlow Protocol Backend.
- Issue #105: Dead Letter Queue (DLQ) for Failed Soroban RPC Syncs
- Issue #103: Postgres Row-Level Security for Multi-Lessor Isolation
- Issue #104: Redis-Backed Rate Limiting for IoT Endpoints
- Issue #102: Lessee "Proof of History" Reputation Indexer
Uncaught exceptions during event processing could crash the entire ingestion engine, freezing dashboard updates permanently.
Implemented a comprehensive BullMQ-based Dead Letter Queue system with:
Key Features:
- BullMQ Integration: Three-tier queue system (ingestion, DLQ, retry)
- Automatic Retry Logic: 3 attempts with exponential backoff
- Critical Event Detection: Prioritizes lease events (LeaseStarted: 10, SubleaseCreated: 8)
- Administrative API:
POST /admin/dlq/retryfor manual job replay - Alert System: Immediate notifications for critical lease events
- Ledger Tracking: Prevents infinite loops with
last_ingested_ledgerpointer
Files Created:
src/services/dlqService.js- Core DLQ servicesrc/routes/dlqRoutes.js- Administrative endpointssrc/tests/dlq.test.js- Comprehensive tests
Database Schema:
-- DLQ events table
CREATE TABLE dlq_events (
id TEXT PRIMARY KEY,
original_job_id TEXT NOT NULL,
event_type TEXT NOT NULL,
ledger_number INTEGER NOT NULL,
event_payload TEXT NOT NULL,
error_message TEXT NOT NULL,
error_stack TEXT,
failed_at TEXT NOT NULL,
retry_count INTEGER NOT NULL DEFAULT 3,
status TEXT NOT NULL DEFAULT 'failed'
);
-- Ledger tracking
CREATE TABLE ingestion_ledger_tracking (
id TEXT PRIMARY KEY DEFAULT 'main',
last_ingested_ledger INTEGER NOT NULL DEFAULT 0
);API Endpoints:
POST /admin/dlq/retry- Manual retry of failed jobsGET /admin/dlq/jobs- List DLQ jobs with filteringGET /admin/dlq/stats- Queue health statisticsPOST /admin/dlq/jobs/:id/resolve- Mark job as resolved
Acceptance Criteria Met:
✅ Indexer worker never crashes permanently due to single bad ledger event
✅ Engineers receive immediate notification for critical lease events
✅ Failed ingestion jobs can be inspected and manually replayed
Application-layer filtering could accidentally expose Lessor A's data to Lessor B due to WHERE clause bugs.
Implemented database-kernel level data isolation using PostgreSQL Row-Level Security:
Key Features:
- Database-Level Security: RLS policies enforced at PostgreSQL kernel level
- Automatic Context Injection:
lessor_idcolumns added to all sensitive tables - Prisma Integration:
set_current_lessor_id()function for context setting - Cross-Tenant Prevention: Even
SELECT *queries are automatically filtered - SOC2 Compliance: Structural data separation for enterprise requirements
Files Created:
src/services/rowLevelSecurityService.js- RLS service implementationsrc/tests/rowLevelSecurity.test.js- Security integration tests
Database Schema Updates:
-- Added lessor_id columns to sensitive tables
ALTER TABLE leases ADD COLUMN lessor_id TEXT NOT NULL;
ALTER TABLE renewal_proposals ADD COLUMN lessor_id TEXT NOT NULL;
ALTER TABLE utility_bills ADD COLUMN lessor_id TEXT NOT NULL;
ALTER TABLE maintenance_jobs ADD COLUMN lessor_id TEXT NOT NULL;
ALTER TABLE maintenance_tickets ADD COLUMN lessor_id TEXT NOT NULL;
ALTER TABLE rent_payments ADD COLUMN lessor_id TEXT NOT NULL;
-- RLS Policies
CREATE POLICY leases_isolation_policy ON leases
FOR ALL TO authenticated_role
USING (lessor_id = get_current_lessor_id());Security Functions:
-- Context management
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION set_current_lessor_id(lessor_id TEXT)
RETURNS VOID AS $$
BEGIN
PERFORM set_config('app.current_lessor_id', lessor_id, true);
END;
$$ LANGUAGE plpgsql SECURITY DEFINER;Acceptance Criteria Met: ✅ Cross-tenant data leakage is structurally impossible at database kernel level ✅ Developers don't rely entirely on application-layer filtering ✅ Implementation supports SOC2 compliance for physical data separation
500 smart locks rebooting simultaneously could overwhelm the API with status update requests.
Implemented Redis-backed token bucket rate limiting with per-IP enforcement:
Key Features:
- Token Bucket Algorithm: Precise rate limiting with automatic token refill
- Per-IP Enforcement: 60 requests/minute for IoT, 30/minute for webhooks
- Global Protection: 10,000 requests/minute cluster-wide limit
- HTTP 429 Responses: Proper
Retry-Afterheaders - Security Audit: Logging of throttled connections
- Express Middleware: Easy integration with existing routes
Files Created:
src/services/rateLimitingService.js- Rate limiting servicesrc/tests/rateLimiting.test.js- Performance and accuracy tests
Rate Limit Configuration:
const config = {
iotEndpoints: {
windowMs: 60 * 1000, // 1 minute
maxRequests: 60, // 60 requests per minute
keyExpiry: 300 // 5 minutes
},
webhookEndpoints: {
windowMs: 60 * 1000, // 1 minute
maxRequests: 30, // 30 requests per minute
keyExpiry: 300
},
globalLimits: {
windowMs: 60 * 1000, // 1 minute
maxRequests: 10000, // 10k requests per minute globally
keyExpiry: 300
}
};Middleware Usage:
// IoT endpoint protection
app.use('/api/v1/iot', rateLimitingService.createIotRateLimitMiddleware('sensor-data'));
// Webhook protection
app.use('/api/v1/webhooks', rateLimitingService.createWebhookRateLimitMiddleware('payment-webhook'));Acceptance Criteria Met:
✅ Backend is immune to connection flooding from physical hardware
✅ Individual devices cannot monopolize server resources
✅ Limits tracked globally across cluster using centralized Redis
Lessors had no way to evaluate tenant risk based on on-chain leasing history.
Built decentralized credit score system with comprehensive historical analysis:
Key Features:
- Historical Scanning: Analyzes entire leasing lifecycle
- Multi-Factor Scoring: Completed leases, payments, defaults, deposit handling
- Time Decay Algorithm: Older events have reduced impact (36-month decay)
- Fast API Endpoint:
GET /api/v1/users/:pubkey/reputation - Transparent Grading: A-F letter grades with detailed breakdowns
- Caching System: 5-minute cache for performance
Files Created:
src/services/reputationIndexerService.js- Reputation calculation enginesrc/routes/reputationRoutes.js- API endpointssrc/tests/reputationIndexer.test.js- Algorithm accuracy tests
Scoring Algorithm:
const weighting = {
completedLeases: 0.25, // 25% weight
payments: 0.35, // 35% weight (most important)
defaults: 0.30, // 30% weight (very important)
deposits: 0.10 // 10% weight
};
// Time decay: events older than 36 months have 90% reduced impact
const timeWeight = 1.0 - (monthsSinceEvent / 36) * 0.9;API Endpoints:
GET /api/v1/users/:pubkey/reputation- Get reputation scoreGET /api/v1/users/:pubkey/reputation/history- Detailed historyPOST /api/v1/reputation/batch- Batch processing (up to 50 users)GET /api/v1/reputation/stats- Global statistics

{
"pubkey": "GB7T...",
"score": 78.5,
"breakdown": {
"completedLeasesScore": { "score": 85, "weight": 0.25 },
"paymentScore": { "score": 92, "weight": 0.35 },
