Doesn't hide certain processes from taskbar

I'm on Windows 10 version 2004 build 19041.572. I can use the keyboard shortcut to "minimize to tray", which makes the window disappear, but the icon is still visible on the taskbar, which kind of defeats the purpose.

I think it's an issue with the target process, not the Windows version. You can try it on a few other processes.
Unfortunately, MinimizeToTray only works on compliant Windows GUIs.
A workaround would be to modify the target application's memory directly, but that'd be against plenty of software TOS.

I think it's much more likely that it remains as a past user choice, that is, it is pinned here.

I can confirm that it was not an issue of pinning to the start bar. The (only) 2 apps I tried were LastPass and Amazon Alexa. If someone can confirm that these apps also don't work for them, it's probably just that they are incompatible.

I installed "LastPass" desktop but the installed icon takes me to the browser! Is there a Windows UI? I can't find any shortcuts.

I believe you have to install it via the Windows Store. Which actually might be the issue - I think Alexa is a Windows store app as well

Same thing here, I'd report that behaviour to LastPass, I selected "Always Minimise" and it goes to or already was in the tray.

A new virtual desktop is a very good suggestion, in fact, I think I'll do that instead of using this tool.

Having the same issue with Sticky Notes. It closes to the tray, but the icon still remains on the taskbar.

Try running the MinimizeToTray as Administrator if there's a program window that can't be hidden, this might help.

It also has some trouble hiding full-screen applications such as games. I found they could be hidden by running in windowed mode instead.
Again, MTT works by sending SW_HIDE window message to the application, obeying it or not is up to the application itself.
