Hi! I’m a student at the University of Michigan taking a software engineering course where we contribute to open-source projects.
Our course allows us to use AI-assisted tools (for example, ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot) only if the project maintainers are OK with it and we still take full responsibility for understanding, reviewing, and testing any code we submit.
I’d like to work on an issue for OpenNutriTracker as part of this class. Is it acceptable for contributors to use AI-assisted tools as part of their workflow (e.g., drafting code or tests), as long as we carefully review and edit everything and make sure it passes the project’s tests and style checks before opening a PR?
If you have any preferences or restrictions (e.g., always disclose AI use in the PR description, or avoid it entirely), I’m happy to follow them.
Thanks for your time, and for maintaining this project!
