@LastModifiedBy is not applied by @Modifying @Query

I don't know if it is bug, feature request or under-documentation, but @LastModifiedBy is useful feature and it is a pity it does not work with @Modifying @Query

Theoretically it should be doable when query is JPQL, not native

JPA bulk operations such as an UPDATE statement via @Query bypass the persistence context and therefore, they do not consider lifecycle methods. As this is a JPA concept, we didn't wanted to document how JPA behaves in our docs.

You can incorporate auditing yourself by e.g. using SpEL expressions such as:

@Query("update AuditableUser a set a.firstname = upper(a.firstname), a.lastModifiedBy = :#{#security.principal}, a.lastModifiedDate = :#{T(java.time.Instant).now()}")
void updateAllNamesToUpperCase();
