NRSC-5 signals are subdivided into logical channels, and each logical channel can have different robustness characteristics. In some cases, the difference in robustness can be large. For instance, in the AM modes, the P3 logical channel (which typically carries the enhanced audio stream) is transmitted with much lower power than the P1 logical channel (which typically carries the core audio stream). We presently report a single BER value; for FM it is the BER of the P1 logical channel, and for AM it is the weighted average of the BER values for the P1 and P3 logical channels. It might be more insightful to report individual BER values for each logical channel, since they could differ significantly.
