It looks like this exists on the encounter table, with it being an integer value calculated as the days between encounter start and encounter end.
IMO the material cited describes something that is application specific (counting inpatient days for billing) and not a general "length of stay" definition. Clinical analytics would definitely not define LOS this way. On a larger note, I find it problematic that LOS is calculated and stored on the encounter table for the reason mentioned above. Rather it should be treated as a metric with potentially different definitions.
