Perhaps some trusted (Web) applications could be of use for end-users to be able to calibrate their adaptation parameters in bulk.
While there are probably many approaches to designing adaptation-parameter calibration software for end-users, one such approach would involve, after a brief questionnaire, presenting end-users with dynamic sequences of side-by-side passages of document content, asking the end-users to gesture or select which passages they prefer (and perhaps to what extent they prefer them).
