Dear Wagtail Team,
My name is Alaa Eddine Sahraoui, and I am reaching out to introduce myself as a Google Summer of Code 2026 applicant. I submitted my proposal on March 31, 2026, for the large-sized project "Multilingual Support Improvements for Wagtail CMS" (12 weeks).
I am currently a PhD researcher at UCLouvain in Belgium, working on adaptive user interfaces and AI-driven UX optimization. I have solid experience with Python and Django from both professional and research settings, including previous roles as a Data Scientist at INRAE (France) and a Python developer at Star Data Solutions (London). I have also published peer-reviewed work on adaptive UI frameworks.
What drew me to this project specifically is that I live and work across multiple languages daily. I speak Arabic, French, English, Turkish, German, and Spanish, so the pain points around multilingual content management are something I experience firsthand, not just theoretically. I believe that perspective, combined with my technical background in Django and Python, puts me in a strong position to deliver meaningful improvements.
The proposal covers three main areas: improving Wagtail's core i18n/l10n features based on community feedback (targeting the August and November 2026 releases), enhancing translation workflow automation with machine translation integration, and demonstrating the results on the Wagtail multilingual user guide website.
You can find more about me here:
My full proposal (wagtail_gsoc_proposal_alaa_sahraoui.pdf) is attached. I would be happy to discuss any aspect of it further.
Thank you for considering my application.
Best regards,
Alaa Eddine Sahraoui
