This is an organizational bug with the goal of collating all remaining tasks related to client-side storage partitioning.

Status of Relevant Issues and PRs

In agreement (The following issues and PRs have at least 2 browsers in agreement. We expect this work to land shortly.):

• Add top-level site and cross site ancestry to storage key #182: depends on Add cross-site ancestor flag to environment. html#11133 landing first

No consensus:

• Add a nonce (ephemeral token) to the Storage Key #183: no other implementers are in favor. Would be tied to Iframe credentialless (WIP) #139

Not started (The following will be updated with issues and PRs as they are filed):

• Update the WebStorage spec (sections 12.2.2, 12.2.3, 12.3.1, and 12.4.3) to refer to Storage Key rather than origin.
• Update the Shared Storage Community Group Draft Report introduction section to point to the new Storage Key spec definition in addition to specifying that top-level site is taken into account.
• Update the WebLocks API spec (section 1.2 Motivating Use Cases) to change the current language from “shared read and exclusive write access across multiple named storage partitions within an origin” to either “across multiple named storage keys within an origin” or “across multiple named storage partitions within a storage key” or some variation.
• Determine whether we need to change references from origin to Storage Key in the FileSystemAccess Draft Community Group Report.
• Determine whether we need to change references from origin to Storage Key in the ClearSiteData API spec section 3.1 subsection "Storage".

Obsolete:

• consider setting StorageKey on environment explicitly #142: we have resolved the calculation of Storage Key in Add top-level site and cross site ancestry to storage key #182 once it lands
• add top-level site to the storage key #127: will be resolved by Add top-level site and cross site ancestry to storage key #182 once it lands
