@moonyuet also assigning this to you - this is essentially what you did for another ticket recently but was deemed "can't merge now" due to it requiring rigorous testing. But essentially this is about allowing repre["files"] = ["frame.1001.png"] to flow through publishing just fine and not requiring it to be a single str.

So for this ticket - let's make sure we have that state where that works fine (with some decent testing scenarios) and after you've been able to check of a few test runs, e.g.

• custom frames (single frame)
• single frame render in nuke, 3dsmax, maya, houdini, etc.
• render on farm, render local

etc.

Then I think we can just do some mass testing and see if it holds up.

I assumed it is temporarily fixed by #1836 but if it is for local rendering, we need to make the change in the integrator instead....

Only caveat is that all places have to first support it, before we can start using it. Right now all places do expect if it's list[str] it means it is a sequence of images (not just multiple files).

To resolve #1835 we can not use list[str] if it is single file output, which is quick fix for that case.
