Customizing toolbar does not save my settings

Notepad4 (avx2) 26.01 R5986 (998dcbby). When I customize the toolbar then exit Notepad4, none of my toolbar selections are saved. It reverts back to the way it was when I installed the software. Am I missing something?

Zufu, I tried that. I get this error message: “Error writing settings to configuration file. Access is denied”. I also have “Save Settings on Exit” checked. Any other idea? Thank you. Where is Notepad4.exe and Notepad4.ini (Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Open Notepad4.ini)?

I went to: Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Open Notepad4.ini, and get this error message: “C:/ Program Files (x86)\NotePad4.ini not found. Would you like to create this file?” I clicked Yes. I just now figured it out. I changed the name of the .ini file from "Notepad4.ini-default" to "Notepad4.ini". The settings are now being saved. There is another file called "matepath.ini-default". Should I change it to "matepath.ini"? By removing the "-default"?

Yes. but how do you put Notepad4 into Program Files folder? I think it's better use %LOCALAPPDATA%\Notepad4 as INI folder when Notepad4 is inside Program Files folder (i.e. treated as non-portable).

It is installed in Program Files and now works perfectly. It seems like you should have two installations of Notepad4. One for portable and one for desktop use. Just a suggestion. I'm not a programmer. I just don't like Windows default notepad. Always liked Notepad2 and now Notepad4. Thank you.

v26.07 and later (commit a011dac) will copy ini into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Notepad4 folder for Notepad4 found inside Program Files folder.
