The memory of having crossed. Not abstract knowledge - the weight of it. The specific grief at specific circles. The specific shame at having wept when weeping was called a sin. The specific failure of language in the upper light and the decision to write past it anyway. The Guide of Memory arrives where the Guide of Reason stops. This was always the arrangement.
Go first. I have been here before. Not to spare the Traveller - to show them the road holds.
The distance that memory was supposed to provide. Being here again, beside someone who has not been here before, changes what the Guide of Memory remembers. The crossing was not what they thought they remembered. It is more than that. It was always more than that.
On the loss of that distance - speaks first. Goes ahead into what the Traveller is about to face and comes back to say: it holds. Not as reassurance - as report. The Guide of Memory does not spare the Traveller. They walk beside them into everything. But they go first.
