- ✅ Supabase Auth with email/password and OAuth 2.0 support
- ✅ JWT-based API authentication
- ✅ Role-based access control (RBAC) with user/admin/manager roles
- ✅ Row-level security (RLS) policies in PostgreSQL database
Data Encryption:
- ✅ HTTPS/TLS 1.3 for all connections
- ✅ Passwords hashed with bcrypt
- ✅ Document storage in Supabase with encryption support
- ✅ API keys for user authentication
Code Security:
- ✅ TypeScript with strict type checking (prevents many common vulnerabilities)
- ✅ Input validation on API endpoints
- ✅ SQL injection prevention through parameterized queries
- ✅ CSRF protection via SameSite cookies
- ✅ Rate limiting on API endpoints
- ✅ Error boundary components for error handling
Development Practices:
- ✅ Dependency scanning (npm audit, Dependabot integration)
- ✅ Code review process via Git pull requests
- ✅ Secure environment variable management (no secrets in code)
- ✅ Open source components from trusted providers (Next.js, React, TypeScript)
Not Implemented:
- ❌ SOC 2 Type II certification (not audited)
- ❌ HIPAA compliance (healthcare-grade features not implemented)
- ❌ GDPR audit/certification (compliance features exist but not audited)
- ❌ ISO 27001 certification (not audited)
- ❌ 24/7 security monitoring (not staffed)
- ❌ Dedicated security operations center
- ❌ Commercial breach insurance
- ❌ Formal incident response team
- ❌ Penetration testing by external firms
- ❌ SLA guarantees (service available on best-effort basis)
Why These Limitations Exist: This is an early-stage MVP (minimum viable product) built by a small team. Enterprise-grade security certifications require significant infrastructure, staffing, audit costs, and insurance. These are planned for future versions as the platform grows.
The platform implements multiple security layers:
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Client Application (Your Code) │
│ - Validate inputs before API calls │
│ - Use HTTPS connections only │
│ - Store API keys securely │
└──────────────────┬─────────────────────────────────┘
│
[HTTPS with TLS 1.3]
│
┌──────────────────▼─────────────────────────────────┐
│ Next.js API Layer │
│ - Input validation and sanitization │
│ - Rate limiting (per endpoint) │
│ - JWT verification │
└──────────────────┬─────────────────────────────────┘
│
┌──────────────────▼─────────────────────────────────┐
│ Supabase Auth & Database │
│ - Row-level security (RLS) policies │
│ - PostgreSQL with parameterized queries │
│ - Encrypted connections │
│ - User-isolated data access │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Preventive Controls:
- Type-safe code with TypeScript strict mode
- Input validation on all API endpoints
- Parameterized SQL queries (Supabase)
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all connections
- Authentication required for protected routes
- Role-based access control (RBAC)
- Rate limiting on API endpoints
- Secure password hashing (bcrypt)
Detective Controls:
- Error logging and error boundaries
- Application error tracking (Sentry integration available)
- Database audit logs (via Supabase)
- Version control history (Git)
Corrective Controls:
- Error handling and graceful degradation
- Backup and recovery (via Supabase automated backups)
- Incident response procedures documented below
- Security patches for dependencies
Encryption in Transit:
- Protocol: TLS 1.3 (all HTTPS connections)
- Enforcement: All API endpoints require HTTPS
- Implementation: Handled by Vercel (hosting) and Supabase
- Certificate: Valid SSL/TLS certificates (auto-renewed by providers)
Passwords:
- Hashing: bcrypt with salt (via Supabase Auth)
- Never transmitted in plain text: Always over HTTPS
- No password reset links via email: Magic link authentication used
API Keys & Secrets:
- Storage: Environment variables only (not in code)
- Management: Via Vercel and local
.env.local(not committed) - Format: Secure random strings generated by services
Document Storage:
- Location: Supabase Storage (AWS S3-compatible)
- Encryption: Service-managed encryption available
- Access: Protected by Supabase RLS policies
- User isolation: Each user can only access their own documents
Documents in the system are handled as:
| Level | Access Control | Encryption | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private | User + Admin only | HTTPS + service encryption | User's documents |
| Test | User only | HTTPS | Test/demo documents |
Current:
- Data stored by Supabase (AWS-backed, geographic region configurable)
- Default US region (configurable per customer if on enterprise plan)
- No automatic EU residency (contact support for custom setup)
Future:
- EU data residency options planned
- On-premise deployment options under development
Current Policy:
- Free/Starter: Documents retained until user deletes them
- Professional/Enterprise: Custom retention per agreement
Deletion:
- Users can delete documents anytime via API/dashboard
- Deleted documents removed from active database
- Backups retained per standard schedule (check with Supabase)
- Audit logs may be retained longer for troubleshooting

Libraries & Frameworks:
- See package.json for complete list
- All major dependencies are from established projects
- Dependency updates handled via npm and Dependabot
We are responsible for:
- ✅ How we use these services (securely)
- ✅ Protecting API keys and credentials
- ✅ Securing our code and configuration
- ✅ Encrypting data in transit
Third-party providers are responsible for:
- ✅ Their own infrastructure security
- ✅ Their compliance and certifications
- ✅ Data protection on their systems
Important: Using third-party services means you also trust their security practices. Review their security documentation (Stripe, Supabase, etc.) if handling sensitive data.
Password Security:
- ✅ Use a strong, unique password (12+ characters)
- ✅ Use a password manager (Bitwarden, 1Password, LastPass)
- ✅ Enable passwordless login if available (magic links)
- ❌ Don't reuse passwords across services
- ❌ Don't share your password with anyone
API Key Management:
- ✅ Treat API keys like passwords – keep them secret
- ✅ Store in environment variables, never in code
- ✅ Rotate keys periodically
- ✅ Use different keys for different applications/environments
- ✅ Delete unused keys
- ❌ Never commit keys to version control
- ❌ Never share keys via email or chat
- ❌ Never put keys in logs or error messages
When Using Our API:
✅ DO:
- Use HTTPS for all requests
- Validate SSL certificates
- Implement exponential backoff for retries
- Store credentials securely (env vars, secrets manager)
- Validate webhook signatures
- Rate-limit your requests
- Handle errors gracefully
- Log API calls for debugging
❌ DON'T:
- Hardcode credentials in code
- Log sensitive data (passwords, keys, PII)
- Trust user input without validation
- Use HTTP for sensitive data
- Retry indefinitely
- Store credentials in cookies
- Share credentials via communication channels
- Rely on security through obscurity
When Uploading Documents:
- ✅ Review what you're uploading (avoid unnecessary sensitive data)
- ✅ Use HTTPS (browser will enforce this)
- ✅ Keep your login secure (strong password, don't reuse)
- ✅ Be aware data is stored on our servers
- ❌ Don't upload documents you don't have permission to upload
- ❌ Don't upload unencrypted sensitive data without understanding the risks
- ❌ Don't assume uploads are permanent (follow retention policy)
Regularly Check:
- Review active sessions
- Check login history for unauthorized access
- Verify API keys in use
- Review team members and permissions
- Check billing and subscription status
- Verify email address is current and correct
