This is a security patch release.

Security

Fixes GHSA-4xgf-cpjx-pc3j: NestedSecretsSettingsSource with secrets_nested_subdir=True could follow a symbolic link inside secrets_dir pointing outside it, reading out-of-tree files into settings values and bypassing the secrets_dir_max_size cap. Affected versions: >= 2.12.0, < 2.14.2.

v4.21.0

Feature

  • Add Parameter.negative_alias to append extra names to a flag's negative form (e.g. a short -d) without dropping the generated --no-*/--empty-* names. Mirrors name/alias. By @BrianPugh in BrianPugh/cyclopts#859

Bug Fixes

  • Fix [#857](https://github.com/BrianPugh/cyclopts/issues/857): a dataclass command with a default_factory field could raise a spurious "Input should be a valid list" validation error simply because pydantic was imported anywhere in the program. Factory defaults are now invoked during introspection, so the produced value (rather than the <factory> sentinel) is used as the default and shown in help text — consistent across dataclass, attrs, and pydantic. By @BrianPugh in BrianPugh/cyclopts#858

Updates pytest from 9.0.3 to 9.1.1

Release notes

Sourced from pytest's releases.

9.1.1

pytest 9.1.1 (2026-06-19)

Bug fixes

  • #14220: Fixed a logic bug in pytest.RaisesGroup which would might cause it to display incorrect "It matches FooError() which was paired with BarError" messages.
  • #14591: Fixed a regression in pytest 9.1.0 which caused overriding a parametrized fixture with an indirect @pytest.mark.parametrize to fail with "duplicate parametrization of '<fixture name>'".
  • #14606: Fixed list-item typing errors from mypy in @pytest.mark.parametrize <pytest.mark.parametrize ref> argvalues parameter.
  • #14608: Fixed a regression in pytest 9.1.0 where conftest.py files located in <invocation dir>/test* were no longer loaded as initial conftests when invoked without arguments. This could cause certain hooks (like pytest_addoption) in these files to not fire.

9.1.0

pytest 9.1.0 (2026-06-13)

Removals and backward incompatible breaking changes

  • #14533: When using --doctest-modules, autouse fixtures with module, package or session scope that are defined inline in Python test modules (not plugins or conftests) will now possibly execute twice.

If this is undesirable, move the fixture definition to a conftest.py file if possible.

Technical explanation for those interested: When using --doctest-modules, pytest possibly collects Python modules twice, once as pytest.Module and once as a DoctestModule (depending on the configuration). Due to improvements in pytest's fixture implementation, if e.g. the DoctestModule collects a fixture, it is now visible to it only, and not to the Module. This means that both need to register the fixtures independently.

Deprecations (removal in next major release)

  • #10819: Added a deprecation warning for class-scoped fixtures defined as instance methods (without @classmethod). Such fixtures set attributes on a different instance than the test methods use, leading to unexpected behavior. Use @classmethod decorator instead -- by yastcher.

    See 10819 and 14011.

  • #12882: Calling request.getfixturevalue() <pytest.FixtureRequest.getfixturevalue> during teardown to request a fixture that was not already requested is now deprecated and will become an error in pytest 10.

    See dynamic-fixture-request-during-teardown for details.

  • #13409: Using non-~collections.abc.Collection iterables (such as generators, iterators, or custom iterable objects) for the argvalues parameter in @pytest.mark.parametrize <pytest.mark.parametrize ref> and metafunc.parametrize <pytest.Metafunc.parametrize> is now deprecated.

These iterables get exhausted after the first iteration, leading to tests getting unexpectedly skipped in cases such as running pytest.main() multiple times, using class-level parametrize decorators, or collecting tests multiple times.

See parametrize-iterators for details and suggestions.

  • #13946: The private config.inicfg attribute is now deprecated. Use config.getini() <pytest.Config.getini> to access configuration values instead.

    See config-inicfg for more details.

  • #14004: Passing baseid to ~pytest.FixtureDef or nodeid strings to fixture registration APIs is now deprecated. These are internal pytest APIs that are used by some plugins.

Updates pytest-cov from 7.0.0 to 7.1.0

Changelog

Sourced from pytest-cov's changelog.

7.1.0 (2026-03-21)

  • Fixed total coverage computation to always be consistent, regardless of reporting settings. Previously some reports could produce different total counts, and consequently can make --cov-fail-under behave different depending on reporting options. See [#641](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-cov/issues/641) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-cov/issues/641>_.

  • Improve handling of ResourceWarning from sqlite3.

The plugin adds warning filter for sqlite3 ResourceWarning unclosed database (since 6.2.0). It checks if there is already existing plugin for this message by comparing filter regular expression. When filter is specified on command line the message is escaped and does not match an expected message. A check for an escaped regular expression is added to handle this case.

With this fix one can suppress ResourceWarning from sqlite3 from command line::

    pytest -W "ignore:unclosed database in <sqlite3.Connection object at:ResourceWarning" ...

  • Various improvements to documentation. Contributed by Art Pelling in [#718](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-cov/issues/718) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-cov/pull/718>_ and "vivodi" in [#738](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-cov/issues/738) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-cov/pull/738>. Also closed [#736](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-cov/issues/736) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-cov/issues/736>.

  • Fixed some assertions in tests. Contributed by in Markéta Machová in [#722](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-cov/issues/722) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-cov/pull/722>_.

  • Removed unnecessary coverage configuration copying (meant as a backup because reporting commands had configuration side-effects before coverage 5.0).

Updates ruff from 0.15.0 to 0.16.0

Release notes

Sourced from ruff's releases.

0.16.0

Release Notes

Released on 2026-07-23.

Check out the blog post for a migration guide and overview of the changes!

Breaking changes

  • Ruff now enables a much larger set of rules by default (413, up from 59). See the blog post for more details and the new Default Rules page for a full listing of the enabled rules. Note that this is primarily an expansion, but 18 of the more opinionated pycodestyle (E) and pyflakes (F) rules have been removed from the default set: E401, E402, E701, E702, E703, E711, E712, E713, E714, E721, E731, E741, E742, E743, F403, F405, F406, and F722.

  • Ruff can now format Python code blocks in Markdown files and will do this by default. See the documentation for more details.

  • Ruff now supports ruff: ignore comments at the ends of lines, like noqa comments, or on the line preceding a diagnostic. For example, these both suppress an unused-import (F401) diagnostic:

    import math  # ruff: ignore[F401]
    ruff: ignore[F401]
    import os

  • Fixes are now shown in check and format --check output:

    ruff format --check .
    unformatted: File would be reformatted
     --> try.md:1:1
      |
    1 | ```python
      - import math
    2 + import math
    3 | ```
      |
    1 file would be reformatted

This example also shows off the Markdown formatting.

  • format --check now supports the same output formats as the linter, including the github and gitlab outputs for rendering annotations in CI:

ruff format --check --output-format github .
::error title=ruff (unformatted),file=try.md,line=2,col=8,endLine=2,endColumn=10::try.md:2:8: unformatted: File would be reformatted

See the CLI help or documentation for the full list of supported formats.

  • The filename, location, end_location, fix.edits[].location, and fix.edits[].end_location fields in the JSON output format may now be null rather than defaulting to the empty string and row 1, column 1, respectively.
