Mentors
women++ wants to ensure that deploy(impact)'s participants have enough resources/ support that allows them to learn and develop their skills in tech further. Mentors include volunteers coming from the different sponsoring companies as well as the women++ community.
Mentors help participants with their projects on a weekly basis, bringing expertise particularly relevant to the process of an agile tech development program within their own areas of expertise. These competencies include the following roles assigned to participants.
Minimum of 1hr/week for 6 weeks from October 8 (Opening ceremony) till November 19 (Project presentations & Award ceremony)
The mentoring can take place in several forms:
-
👥 Collective session. In every sprint, you will find a collective workshop with a specific topic relevant to the development of the solution. All 6 teams will be invited to take part. A mentor(s) specialized in the topic will hold the session. These sessions usually will start with a presentation of the topic followed by a Q&A session at the end, so that participants can interact.
-
💬 Slack channels for ad hoc mentorship support. Participants and mentors will have access to a dedicated slack space during deploy(impact), as the main communication channel. When participants have any questions about a specific topic, they can submit them through the relevant channel via this form (please create a copy for each different topic you need help with ). Experienced mentors on the topic will be added to the channel and will be able to follow up on a rolling basis.
Slack topic channels:
#Architectural design
#Data Science
#Pitch
#Project management
#Software development
#UX/UI design
- 👤 Individual feedback session. These sessions are scheduled individually between a team and a mentor to cover a predefined topic. You might have reached out directly to the mentor via slack because they suggested following up during a collective session Q&A section, or because they mentioned they could support you via slack after submitting your request for support via this form in a slack channel for ad hoc mentorship support.
Once you agree to meet with a mentor, fill in the support request form if you haven't and send it to the mentor. This session can be from 30 min to 1 hr, depending on what's agreed with the mentor directly. Make sure you agree on the format you will meet (creating a video call link).
After reading the form you will be able to set up a meeting with the team via TeamUp, this session can be 30 min to 1 hr, depending on what's agreed with the mentor.
This year we are going TeamUp as a tool to manage the events or simply schedule meetings.
There are five different calendars:
- Mentors > Workshops: This calendar brings together all the collective workshops in which teams can participate.
- General events: Get Together, Opening and Closing Ceremony
- Mentors > Individual Sessions: Mentors will use this calendar to create the necessary meetings to support the various teams.
- Participants > Learning Lunch: This timetable will be used by participants to schedule times for sharing knowledge with other participants. Preferably during the lunch break and lasting about 30 minutes.
- Wikimedia > Collective Sessions / Individual Sessions: Those are the calendars with all scheduled sessions with project owners or users.
In order to create a meeting with teams, you can use your own link
- Simply schedule a meeting (you can choose to set up different events or simply the one decided with the team)
- Remember to click the "options" button inside the event in order to enable the "Sign Up" option. In this way, participants will have the chance to register.
