BALTRAD 2019-09-24 - 2019-10-31 /BS19
BALTRAD 2014-04-03, 2014-10-03, 2015-04-03, 2015-10-03, 2016-04-03, 2016-10-03, 2017-03-31, 2017-10-07 /BS22
Scanning patterns induce unreliable height distribution between scans.
/BS19: see ppi below.
Height range is limited for many radar. Bird density very low. Few gaps due to
sd_vpp_threshold, even less for other reasons.
/BS22:
Dealiased_perc between 0 (most frequent; 2016 and 2017 nearly always 0, but frpla frtra on 2017-10-07) to 21% (e.g. frpla 2015-10-03).
wavelength 5.3, ALSO for S_BAND radars (see radar list below)!
DualPol_filtering_perc 0%
singlePol_filtering_perc 100%
n from 50 to 97 (low variation between radar for a given date).
Height cut-off most strongly in 2017-03-31, across years for some radars (e.g. fropo, frbol, frnan, fropo) and to various degree for other radar (e.g. frtre, frtro).
minor rain contamination (e.g. frtro 2015-04-03).
Gaps during strong migration.
no flight barbs in plots from 2016-04-03
CONCLUSION: adjust default wavelength for S-band radar, no absolute migration intensity because of frequent height cut-off.
0: not available, 1: available, 2: poor quality, 3: good quality

There is a lot of variation in VCP's, here is a quick summary of about 400 (taking the first 3 for 6 different days per radar). There are 1 to 6 different VCP's per radar with the majority having 3. The NI values are always high between 58 and 62. There are always 267 bins, 360 rays and the range scale is 960 m. There are 2 different combinations of low, mid and high prf values (when accounting for minor variations). Most polar volumes have 5 or 6 scans (7% has fewer scans), in 97% of the polar volumes the lowest scan is below or equal to 1 degree. In 80% of the cases the highest scan is equal or above 5 degrees. There might be more consistent patterns between radars but this gives a general overview.
