2026-ARC-Inductions - Robotic Gripper

This round evaluates your ability to model functional mechanisms in CAD and to validate a structural design under load.

Task 1: Robotic Gripper Mechanism

Reproduce a linkage-driven robotic gripper from a reference tutorial. The objective is to build familiarity with assemblies, joints, and motion definition in Fusion 360 before attempting original design work.

Requirements

  • Follow the reference tutorial and reproduce the mechanism as specified.
  • Do not deviate from the original geometry until the base mechanism actuates correctly through its full range of motion.
  • Once the mechanism is verified as functional, you may extend it with your own modifications, additional fingers, revised link geometry, or an altered form factor. Document any changes you make.

Note: If the mechanism does not move, the joints are likely over-constrained or incorrectly defined. Review your joint types and degrees of freedom before proceeding.

Deliverables

  • Fusion 360 source file (.f3d)
  • Screenshot of the completed model
  • Short screen recording demonstrating the mechanism in motion

How to submit

  1. Upload all deliverables CAD files, screenshots, and recordings, to a Google Drive folder, and set the folder's sharing permissions so that anyone with the link can view it. Submissions that are not accessible to reviewers will not be evaluated.
  2. Once the folder is ready, open a pull request against the main repository with the shared link included in your PR description, or in a new file(preferably both). Refer to the main repository for branch naming, folder structure, and any additional conventions before opening the PR.

If you update your Drive folder after the pull request is open for example, by adding a deliverable you finished later, do not open a second PR. Make a corresponding change in your branch, such as updating the link or noting the addition in your submission file, commit it, and push to the same branch. The existing pull request will update automatically, and reviewers will see the revised submission.

In every version of the link that you update, you can write down what you added, what challenges you faced and how you learnt new things, this will increase your chances significantly, if you just submit the deliverables, you give the reviewer lesser interest in going through your work.
