Target 2026-11-09. Python 3.10 reaches EOL on 2026-10-31 and pandas 3.0 requires Python >=3.11, so 6.0 sets the floor at 3.11. Breaking changes land on main during a freeze window opening ~2026-10-12; until then 5.x keeps releasing and changes ship additively with deprecation warnings. Note the issue counter: these are programs rather than defects, and most stay open until the window closes even where their additive half has already shipped — #939 carries the real progress.
