To delete records in REDCap, follow these steps:
-
Navigate to the Record Status Dashboard or the Data Entry page:
- Go to the "Record Status Dashboard" and locate the record you want to delete.
- Alternatively, you can open the specific record via the "Add/Edit Records" option.
-
Open the Record:
- Select the record you want to delete by clicking its ID.
-
Locate the Delete Option:
- In the record's data entry form, look for the "Delete Record" button. This button is typically found at the bottom of the page or in the "Choose action for record" dropdown menu.
-
Confirm Record Deletion:
- Once you click "Delete Record," a confirmation prompt will appear. Read the message carefully to ensure you are deleting the correct record.
- Confirm the deletion by following the instructions (e.g., typing the record ID or clicking "Confirm").
-
Verify the Record is Deleted:
- After deletion, check the Record Status Dashboard or the Add/Edit Records page to ensure the record is no longer visible.
- Permissions: You must have appropriate user permissions to delete records. Some projects will have a specific procedure for deleting records and in those cases you should ask for project or site lead for direction.
- Irreversible Action: Deleting a record is permanent and cannot be undone, so proceed carefully.
- Audit Logs: REDCap maintains an audit log of all actions, including record deletions.
