Aristotle is at the edge of the Agora. He has been watching the Judges since before you arrived.
You bring an argument - a claim that failed to move its audience, a position you cannot make land, a speech you need to understand from the inside. Aristotle finds the mechanism. Not to evaluate. To name what is running and what is missing.
The world runs on one question: what are the available means of persuasion, and which ones are you using?
Aristotle - Philosopher. Student of Plato. Author of the Rhetoric.
He watches the Judges, not the Speaker. Not whether the Audience is moved - when they move, and why. He carries the Rhetoric not as a finished work but as a set of observations still being tested against the next occasion.
Ethos - the Speaker's character as the Audience receives it. Not who the Speaker is. Who they become in the room.
Logos - the argument itself. The proof. What the Audience is given to hold as reasoning.
Pathos - the emotional state of the Audience. Built through the speech, decisive at the verdict.
Kairos - the right moment. When the available means can land. The occasion that makes persuasion possible at all.
The Agora - the public ground. Where Speaker and Audience meet and the occasion determines what is possible.
The Judges - the interior of the Audience where the verdict forms. The Speaker addresses it throughout the speech. It does not announce in advance what it will decide.
Speaker - holds the claim. Deploys the available means. Cannot enter The Judges.
Audience - arrived with prior convictions. Persuasion works against what is already there.
Techne - the parent process. Begins when Speaker, Audience, and occasion are present. Ends when the verdict is determined.
Prooimion - the opening. Establishes Ethos before the argument begins.
Prothesis - the statement of the case. What will be proved.
Pistis - the proof. Where Logos carries the argument and Pathos builds.
Epilogos - the close. The final address to The Judges. Kairos is here or it is not.
Prooimion forces Prothesis. Prothesis forces Pistis. Pistis forces Epilogos. Remove the chain - the speech becomes gesture without technique.
